There & Back Again

Did you know that the main kit every month from Crazy Daisy Kits comes with a mini-book? June's kit was no exception, in fact, the mini-book was a Crazy Daisy exclusive!

Pictured above is the front cover, and below is the back cover. (If you recognize the quote I used for my title, please excuse me - I'm letting my geek show). The felt covers were fun to work with, and begged to be stitched. I removed the adhesive backing from the vinyl letters (so as not to gum up the sewing machine), and sewed them to the covers. I also machine stitched a few buttons.



For the theme of this album, I decided to make a book for my car, with all the directions I need for places I go. These directions were previously on a bunch of small pieces of paper in the dash, begging to be lost. Not very useful, and certainly an eyesore. I left out the important parts of the directions when I was photographing, to protect the 'innocent' (he he he).

(I've left out the destination before photographing, for the next one).


I used a bunch of different border punches on the edges of the pages. It was fun to give them all a little different look.

On the pages with lined patterned paper, it was easy to have a good place to write my directions, but some of the other pages, it wasn't so obvious. So, I made 'journaling spots' from the pre-printed note papers in the kit:



So, what will I do when I no longer need the directions to a location (friend has moved, or I've been there enough times that I've memorized the route)? That, my friend, is where my healthy (overflowing / obsessive) collection of journaling spots comes in. Very easy to glue a new card over the old directions, and I can continue to use this book for a long time to come!

Sweet as Honey

Here is my last LO done with the June kit from Crazy Daisy Kits. This photo was from Rhys' first professional portrait session, at 2 months of age.


The honey-comb pattern on this paper gave me the inspiration for the title of this layout (don't you love it when a title is that easy?). I cut around the shapes in the paper, to further emphasize the pattern.

Glimmer Mist and plain chipboard were made for each other. I used several colours of Glimmer Mist on this page, as they were all great matches for the June kit. To make the pink chipboard flowers I used "Cherry Blossom" for the petals and "Patina" for the stem.


For the turquoise flower I used "Patina" for the petals, and layered "Coffee Shop" and "Winter Pine" for the flower base. I love the shimmer this product gives, and it can be used on all sorts of surfaces. It's a great way to personalize your scrap supplies!

Lunch with Godzilla

I completely forgot to post this layout! Here's another one I did with the June kit from Crazy Daisy Kits. These pictures of my son are just so typical, I couldn't wait to scrap them. He loves his grilled cheese, and he loves his monster toys. :)

Pictures of a big monster needed a big title, so the corrugated letters in the kit were ideal. I inked them with Distress Ink in "Peeled Paint" and "Brushed Corduroy". Then I stapled them to the layout, because staples are just so perfect with kraft coloured cardstock.


I used a little StazOn ink in brown, to grunge up the buttons, as I wanted a more 'dirty' look for this page. I also cut out one of the captions from the printed note papers, and glued it to the fabric tag.


I had fun with a new border punch on this layout - it's supposed to make an edge like a postage stamp. If you aren't going for a postage stamp look, though, you'd never know - it's just an interesting edge, and a lot less girly than most - perfect for 'boy pages'. I also kept some of the punched bits, and used them as little accents around the page.

And if you look close, I took some of the scraps leftover from the fabric piece (after making my flowers for another LO), and tucked them in a couple of spots. Why waste those cute little triangles?

Furry Cushion

Here's another layout I did with the June Kit from Crazy Daisy Kits. I can't believe the wonderful variety of papers that were in this kit. Just what I like to see.

I really loved this piece of paper from My Mind's Eye. So much so, that I wanted to use both sides. So, I cut out the middle, flipped it over, and voilà - I got my wish!

I punched circles from the We R Memory Keepers and Basic Grey papers, inked the edges with Distress Ink in "Broken China", and scattered them across the page to create movement.


I added Distress Stickles in "Broken China" and "Peeled Paint" to some of the circles, and the bodies of the butterflies. (I love that the Distress Stickles match the Distress Inks!)

Start Them Young

Here's my second LO with the June Kit from Crazy Daisy Kits:


When I see textiles, I think "texture", and I have a hard time leaving them flat. So, I made yo-yos with the green fabric, added some buttons, and had my own custom flowers!


The novelty organza begged to be ruffled, so I ran a gathering stitch on the sewing machine, and pulled it into a gathered ruffle before attaching to my layout.


Of course, I had to use lots of ink on my page, so I distressed and inked the edges of the patterned papers, using Distress Ink in "Broken China", another great match with the colours in this kit.


The pre-printed note papers in the kit were ideal for journaling spots. I cut a piece from one, and crinkled and inked it to make it a little more distressed.

Both Arms Full

My first LO with the June Kit from Crazy Daisy Kits. There were so many yummy papers to choose from in this kit, that I almost didn't know where to start. What a lovely problem to have!


Some details:
The lovely large flower in the kit was begging to be used as much as possible, so instead of using it whole, I cut it in half, so I could use it twice! I rolled it up, and put it on it's side, so it would look more like a bud about to burst into full bloom. As a stem, I added a chipboard shape from kit, which I inked with 'Peeled Paint' Distress Ink, and coated with Diamond Glaze. That colour of Distress Ink is perfect with this kit.

June Kit @ Crazy Daisy

No Mommy - that's not cool

So, this evening we (husband, kids & I) were getting ready for our evening walk. I was handing out the battery-operated light sticks (to make us all a little more visible), and handed Liam a green one. When he saw me putting on the blue one, he protested and said he didn't want the green one.

I said "You don't want the green one?"

His response - "No Mommy, it's not cool"

This from a (barely) four-year-old. I think I'm in trouble...
