Pewter - Ruby Rock-it

For Ruby Rock-it this month, we were asked to create projects based on some of our December / Christmas traditions. This layout is about the pewter ornaments that I collect each year.  I used papers from the Le Jardin collection, because the backs were absolutely perfect for a Christmas page!

I thought of these silver tags right away for using on a pewter themed page.  To give them a little more seasonal look I embossed them with a snowflake pattern.

I die-cut holly shapes from the papers, and doodled some stitches for a little definition.  (I find doodling helps give die cut shapes a little more character).

If you would like to find out more about these pewter ornaments, please visit Amos Pewter's website.  The ornaments are designed and hand-crafted in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.  They ship internationally (and they are worth it).

Birthday Card - Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits

What? Two cards in a row?  ;)

I loved working with the December Big Boy kit from Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits.  I used some of my smaller scraps to make a birthday card for my brother (these papers are perfect for boys and men - you can't go wrong with this kit).   The kit was generous though - I have a lot more than just scraps left - I could easily make 3-4 more layouts (and probably will when CHA commitments quiet down a little).

Supplies (Boys Rule Scrapbook kits December Big Boy kit):
PP - Scrap Within Reach
wood letters - Pink Paislee
ink - Ingilvd Bolm by Prima Marketing
other - corrugated cardboard, buttons

Other Supplies:
mini letters - Rose Moka

Bagels - Ruby Rock-it

Hi everyone. I know many of you are scrambling around with last-minute Christmas details (I am too, at this point - I love that I can prepare blog posts in advance, ha!). I wanted to show a layout featuring one of my favorite little Christmas morning traditions. We always bring fresh Montreal bagels back east to have on Christmas morning, with cream cheese and smoked salmon - Yum!

This layout features products from the Ruby Rock-it Paper Doll and Paper Boy collections (since these photos include both my boy and my doll) ;) These collections mix well together.

I love that the chipboard shapes and felt icons are just the right thickness for layering!

Whenever I feel my titles need a little boost, I outline them with a marker, and it usually does the trick.

I am not normally drawn to word stickers, but I found the perfect words in the sticker sheet for this collection, so why not? (I added a few ink splats with acrylic ink, too - just for fun).

You can kinda see that I outlined the banner border with a marker too. I find that helps give a little more definition to stickers. I'm not a banner person - anyone who scraps with me regularly will know that. But it somehow works here.

Supplies (Ruby Rock-it):
PP - PD12- Paper Doll 12x12 Cardstock - Nostalgic
PD67- Paper Doll 12x12 Cardstock - Collage
PD99- Paper Doll 12x12 Cardstock - Dotti

embellishments -
PD04- Paper Doll Cardstock Sticker
PD28- Paper Doll Floral Accents
PD35- Paper Doll Felt Icons
PD59- Paper Doll Border Sticker
chipboard letters - PD42- Paper Doll Chipboard Alphabet
ribbon - PBY89- Paper Boy Ribbon

Other Supplies:

Get Your Art On - Love My Tapes

I had fun combining some great Love My Tapes fabric sheets and tapes on this page, mixing girly with boyish. Here you can see the brown dot fabric (which I die cut into a tag shape) and the pink reptile fabric. It didn't need the stitching to hold it, but I have a hard time resisting using the sewing machine when fabric is involved.

The white newsprint fabric works on so many projects. I added a little pop of green with the Sherbert mini check fabric tape. The 'you & me' and 'just the 2 of us' tags are from Ormulu.

In this picture you can see some of the 15mm beige lace tape and the Brooke Wildflowers fabric tape - so easy to create little borders. These fun wood asterisk shapes are from Studio Calico. Normally I would have the urge to mist them in some way, but the natural colour was just right.

I had a few diecut shapes leftover in the brown dot fabric, so I placed them in the corners and added a few splats of acrylic ink.

This Maya Road journaling spot was just the right size. :)

Supplies (Love My Tapes):
fabric sheets - brown dot (FS022), pink reptile (FS006), white newsprint (FS028)
fabric tapes - Sherbert mini check (FT016), Brooke Wildflowers (FT001)
lace tape - 15mm beige (LT2003)

Other Supplies:
PP - Making Memories
letters - American Crafts
wood shapes - Studio Calico
tags - Ormulu
journaling spot - Maya Road
acrylic ink - Liquitex

Cutterful - Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits

I was lucky to get to guest design for Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits this month. This is a fairly new kit club dedicated to putting together awesome kits for Boy pages. Anyone who has a lot of boy photos to scrapbook knows that there aren't nearly as many options for masculine supplies as there are for the girly stuff. Boys Rule wants to help you find the best boy stuff out there and make it easy for you to get! No Girls Allowed, ha ha!

This is the first layout I made with the December "Big Boy" kit (there's also a December "Little Boy" kit, which is adorable!) This kit features perfectly grungy papers from Scrap Within reach, and they were loads of fun to work with.

I loved that there was a nice big sheet of clean corrugated cardboard in the kit (it's easy to get the dirty stuff in my blue bin, ha!). Of course, it didn't take me long to use the chalk ink pads from the kit and add some grungy colour (there were 4 of the new Ingvild Bolme inks by Prima - nice and creamy!).

I'm in love with any wood scrap supplies lately, and I was delighted to find these Pink Paislee letters in the kit. I decided to leave them bare for this page, so they would pop. This kit also included an awesome Smash book date stamp - just that little bit cooler than the average date stamp - you can be using this one on all sorts of things, for years to come.

The kit had a full sheet of Technique Tuesday coaster board stars. I customized them with two of the ink pads from the kit (the grey and the blue) and then lightly spritzed them with water so the colours would blend. Super easy! And the chunky zipper was also part of the kit - love this - it's like the boy version of lace.

Supplies (from Boys Rule Scrapbook Kits - December "Big Boy Kit")
PP - Scrap Within Reach
wood letters - Pink Paislee
coasterboard stars - Technique Tuesday
ink - Ingvild Bolme for Prima Marketing
date stamp - Smash
other - corrugated cardboard, buttons, zipper

Other Supplies:
marker - Faber-Castell PITT pen
(yup - everything else - even the ink - was included in the kit!)

First Grade

This was my last layout for Sketchabilities. Thanks for all the great sketches Karan!

I love the zipper trims that are popping up in scrap supplies lately. It kinda gives me permission to dig in my sewing box and pull some out. It's certainly easier than inserting them in a dress seam, ha ha!

It's fun to 'sprinkle' brad and small chipboard around a page.

I wanted some burgundy paper behind the photo, so I layered a couple of journaling spots - who says you have to use them for just journaling?

I placed the letters on a lighter patterned paper and cut around it, so it would stand out a little more from the background. Then I added a rub-on crown for my little prince. ;)

Supplies:
PP, chipboard, letters, stickers, zipper trim, brads, rub-ons - Bo Bunny
ink - Ranger
marker - Faber-Castell

If you encounter a wonky link and get lost, you can pick up on the hop again here: Love My Tapes blog.

Don't forget to leave comments on your way through the hop - there's a prize in it for you! ;)

So, on to telling you about my layout. I started with a simple background and added some glimmer mist using Crafter's Workshop stencils. I also used some glimmer mist to customize my letters.

There are a lot of very girly products from Love My Tapes, but don't let that fool you - there are also a lot of products that are awesome for little boy pages, and I found some that totally worked for a Christmas page. The brown suede fabric sheet has a great texture, and with the help of a die cutter, the green and red polka dot fabric sheets make fun holly shapes.

This green plaid fabric sheet is perfect for Christmas projects, and the brown check fabric tape is great for boy pages. This lace is subtle enough to add to masculine pages. (I'm in love with these wooden buttons too!)

I added doodled 'stitches' to the holly for a little more definition.

Thanks for stopping by on the Love My Tapes Christmas Blog Hop - don't forget to visit Lisa at the next stop on the tour!

Supplies (Love My Tapes):
fabric sheets - text (FS027), brown suede (FS010), red dot (FS021), green dot (FS023), green plaid (FS026)

1 Product, 3 Ways - Green Tara Metal Swirl Embellishments

When I received my DT kit from Green Tara, there was a little post-it note on some of these metallic swirls that said "Would like some ideas for these". So, I started pondering how I could showcase them. The swirls are available in several festive colours (red, green, silver and copper) and my first instinct was that I should use them for Christmas projects. They measure approximately 8.5 cm high (about 3 inches), but they are quite flexible, allowing you to stretch them out a little longer if your project needs. Oh, and before I forget - my favorite adhesive for these is Fabri-tac liquid adhesive.

For my first project, I used a silver swirl as a gift card holder. I used the silver metallic swirls for this.

Here's a shot without the gift card. I misted the entire tag with Sea Glass glimmer mist, then used screens from the Tattered Angels Vintage Seasons Winter Trees set, and misted with Mallard and Midnight Blue glimmer mists. I then added some stamped images (Chillin’ and Tattered Textures sets). The Mistables crepe ribbon is from the Rockin’ Renaissance set and was misted with Mallard and Midnight Blue mists. The entire tag received a coat of Chandelier Glam.

The Green Tara tassel trim started out cream, but was misted with glimmer mist (Mallard).

These swirls were perfect for holding a gift card in place!

This blue/silver beaded stem adds some sparkle and texture:

The blue (Gardenia) and teal (apple blossom) flowers started out white and were customized with glimmer mist. The ivory flower is it's original colour.

Gift Card Holder Supplies
Green Tara:
Metal Swirls, Silver (MS858S3)
20m Mini Tassel Ribbon 15mm Cream (RB456c)
27cm Blue/Silver Bead Stem (XB31356BS)
Gardenia, White (FDV054Wh5)
White Apple Blossom (FDV044Wh5)
Ivory Apple Blossom (FDV044Iv5)

Tattered Angels:
glimmer mist - Sea Glass, Mallard, Midnight Blue
glimmer glam - Chandelier
screens - Vintage Seasons Winter Trees
stamps - Chillin’, Tattered Textures
tag
printed crepe paper

All that sparkle made me think of decorations for the tree, so my next project was a Christmas ball. I started with a clear glass ornament, coated it with clear gesso, and a couple of coats of Glimmer Glam (Jolly Old Elf). Once it was all dry, I added red metallic swirls, using Fabri-Tac as an adhesive. You definitely want a strong liquid adhesive for this project, as the swirls want to snap back to their original shape rather than curve around the ball.

To finish off the ornament, I wrapped gold bead trim around the base, and tied an extra loop of it for hanging. I adhered the bead trim with Glue Dot - Glue Lines, as they are quite strong, and a little less fussy than a liquid adhesive.

Christmas Ball Supplies
Green Tara:
Red Metallic Swirls (MS858R3)
3mm Bead Garland, Gold (RBY06Go)

Tattered Angels:
glimmer glam - Jolly Old Elf

Other:
glass ornament - DeSerres
clear gesso - Liquitex

For my third project, I made a simple Christmas card. This is something that you can make quickly. I started by embossing and sanding kraft-core cardstock. Then I misted with Pearl glimmer mist for a little extra shimmer.

I added a strip of Mesh Gold trim,. a White Gardenia and an Emerald Metallic Swirl. I cut the swirl into 3 pieces, to place it around the flower. (No reason why you can't cut your embellishments!)

I brushed a little Pixie Dust glimmer glam on the flower.

Add a sentiment, and call it done!

Thanks for checking out my projects. Let me know if you try any of these ideas - I would love to see!

Card Supplies

Liam & Grammy - Green Tara

Hey Everyone, I have a layout to share with you featuring Tattered Angels and Green Tara - a great pairing! (I realize the journaling is missing. I forgot to add it before I photographed - it has since been added. Pretend you can see it below the title, OK? ;) )

To create the background I used texture medium with the Winter Crystals screens to get the dimensional snowflakes. (After I misted the snowflakes, I spritzed with water so that the texture medium would stand out from the background)

I misted the background with Glacier (all over), Icicle Blue, Snowy Pine and Night B4 Christmas glimmer mists, using screens from the Vintage Seasons – Winter Trees set.

After spraying some of the screens in one location, I would flip them over to another spot on the layout, allowing the screen to act as a stamp. I also brushed a little Pewter glimmer glaze around the edges of the layout, and randomly stamped a 'Tattered Textures' stamp on the background (hard to see in the photo).

The silver rose leaves were misted with Bubble Light Green glimmer mist, and the red and purple gardenias received a generous helping of Pixie Dust glimmer glam.

These sprays with the dark iridescent beads were really cool - so easy to get them to sit where you want because they are wired.

I cut apart a second spray to place around the flower clusters. No problem doing this, as the beads are individually wired, so they won't come off if you cut part of the stem.

Supplies (Tattered Angels):
glimmer mist - Glacier , Icicle Blue, Snowy Pine, Night B4 Christmas, Bubble Light Green
glimmer glaze - Pewter
glimmer glam - Pixie Dust
screens - Winter Crystals, Winter Trees

Supplies (Green Tara):
beaded sprays - 22cm Silver Stem, 7 Leaves, Peacock
flowers - Gardenia Red 6cm, Gardenia Purple 6cm
leaves - Rose Leaf 7cm Silver

Other Supplies:
PP - Studio Calico
letters - American Crafts
texture medium - Liquitex
marker - Faber-Castell PITT pen
