Don't Blink

Today I wanted to share an art journal page I created to team Helmar up with Darkroom Door this week.  I was delighted to get a chance to work with these great stamps, but since I've never been to New York, I knew a scrapbook page wasn't the route for me.  So I decided to let my geek side show, with this Doctor Who themed page.

I started with a painted / textured background and added an image transfer.

Then I added a lot of stamping with the bridge stamp and some of the iconography.  I used 450 Quick Dry to adhere the Darkroom Door clip art because it's quite thick and my page was 'lumpy'.

The Statue of Libery stamp was too good to obscure on the background, so I stamped it on smooth cardstock and added it as a collage element, with the Decoupage.  I really can't get over the quality of these stamps.  I'm not a skilled stamper, and I was able to get terrific results:

I also used the Decoupage to seal all the clip art and letter stickers.

So Thankful - scrapbooking on burlap with Authentique and Canvas Corp

This week Authentique did a product swap with Canvas Corp, which means I got to play with some textured items that make my heart go pitter-pat.    Like this awesome burlap sheet, which turned out to be a perfect background for the Authentique "Thankful" collection.  The colours in this collection made me swoon.  (Now I'm itching to put more burlap together with Authentique - I love how the two textures work together!)

I started off by misting on the burlap with a stencil and Glimmer mist.  I glued the papers and photos together with Professional Acid Free glue, then glued the whole 'stack' to the burlap using Premium Craft Glue, to make sure it stuck well.   (I also ran a line of the Premium Craft Glue along the edge of the burlap sheet, on the backside, to prevent too much fraying).

I die-cut several leaves as embellishments; branches too.  Great way to use up smaller pieces of paper, and they add oomph without a lot of weight.  I glued these down with Helmar 450 Quick Dry - best thing for sticking to burlap!

That green mesh trim?  How could I not use it on this page - the texture is awesome, and the colour was perfect. (Yup - used 450 Quick Dry on that, too)

I die cut a lacy circle and used it to back one of the circle stickers.  Then I pop-dotted it with Zap Dots.

Thank you to Canvas Corp and May Arts for the goodies they sent to the Authentique team!

Home for Christmas Art Journal page - Susan k Weckesser

I wanted to share my first 'official' project as a DT member for Susan K Weckesser.   I decided to make an art journal page (partly because I had a new journal begging for some attention, and partially because Susan designs super cute stamps).

The background was made with Dylusions spray inks.  The awesomely opaque white marker is from Zig / Kuretake. I want this marker in every colour!

I made my own 'washi tape' with the washi tape stamps, by stamping on tissue paper, then tearing it and adhering like it was tape.  It's a fun way to use these stamps, and I can see me using this technique again.

I wanted to use this cute house stamp  as a collage element, so I stamped it on white cardstock, coloured it, and then cut it out and glued it to my page.  I did the same with the cloud stamp.

I used the "Splatter it" stamp and the banner from the "Create your Day" set as texture stamps in the background.   The funky letters are old-as-dirt rub-ons from Doodlebug, but they still work great!

Thanks for visiting!

Helmar and Robin's Nest Christmas Blog Hop

Hi, I'm JJ Sobey and I'm a Helmar Designer.  So glad you've hopped on by during the Helmar / Robin's Nest blog hop!  You've probably just been to visit Michelle Cummings, and your next stop will be to visit Dawn Mercedes Barrett.  (Don't worry - full list and links are at the bottom of this post).

You can't beat the Helmar Gemstone Glue for clear embellishments like these Dew Drops.  It dries completely clear, and holds tough - those aren't going to shake off in the mail, that's for sure!

I added some Zap Dots to give my sentiment a little lift.

Thank you for visiting, and enjoy the rest of the hop!

"Love Story" - wedding scrapbooking with Authentique's "Lovely"

Have you been over to the Authentique blog today?  You should hop on over there and see the full reveal of the new "Lovely" collection.  So many possibilities with it, because instead of 6 patterns, there are 12 in this collection, allowing for a softer romatic vibe (as seen here), and a more vintage valentine feel as well.

As you would expect from Authentique, there are plenty of great shapes in the stickers and die-cuts, like these tags.

Fussy-cutting a few flowers to tuck in and around other papers and embellishments is a great way to get more bang from your papers.  (Helmar 450 Quick Dry was the easiest way to get that metal key to stay put.)

Yup - this photo is from our wedding.  :)

PP - Beloved, Dainty, Keynote, Amour, Dearest, Fancy
Details Stickers

Adhesives (Helmar):

450 Quick Dry
Zap Dots

Friendship card - Authentique "Peaceful" and Love My Tapes lace

This week Authentique is doing a cross-promo with Love My Tapes.  How lucky for me - since I love their lace tape (as you may already know).

This self-adhesive lace pairs perfectly with Authentique's heavily textured papers - it sticks with no problem at all.  I used Zap Dots to pop up the sentiment sticker.

I used Helmar Gemstone Glue on these dew drops - they're not going to fall off in the mail!

PS - I'll have another card with a similar technique on Saturday - which will be part of a Blog Hop you don't want to miss... *hint, hint*

Supplies (Authentique "Peaceful" collection):
Freeze, Cozy, Chill papers
Details stickers

Adhesives (Helmar):
Professional Acid Free Glue
Zap Dots

Dress Up Day - Halloween with Authentique, Helmar & Green Tara

Since I took these pictures last year at Halloween, I figured I'd probably better post them before THIS Halloween, hahha!  Oh my poor blog has suffered during my mojo-drought.  I can't seem to string together more than 3 words before they stop making any sense...

This paper collection is from Authentique (Enchanted).  I love the type of orange they chose - it's not so crayola, if that makes any sense (see what I mean?).  I like that it's strong, but not neon.

With all the fun little stickers in this collection, it was easy to find one for my journaling.   I used Zap-Dots on just half of the date sticker, allowing room for the chunky leaf to fit underneath.

Helmar 450 Quick Dry is the perfect solution for tricky-to-glue trims like this 'cobweb trim' from Green Tara:

Yeah... still a little addicted to my Distess Stains...

A little outlining with a marker can help stickers stand out:

PP, stickers, letters - Authentique "Enchanted" collection
trim, leaves - Green Tara

"Comic Shop Visit" - Ruby Rock-it

Hi everyone!  I'd been 'sitting' on this snap shot for quite some time (many years), and figured it was about time I scrap it.  I used the new Bella! Boutique "Family" line from Ruby Rock-it.

Combine a chipboard banner with a title?  Sure!  These mini-letters are part of the die-cut "Words to Go" pack.

There are a number of great chipboard shapes in the Inspiration pack.  I popped (with Zap Dots) one of the 'Words to Go' phrases for a little lift.

A little machine stitching is an easy way to add texture:

Snow Ball - Authentique October Colour challenge

Hmmm - having one of those days when some things are weird colours in the photographs.  I'll leave it to you to decide which, ha ha...  but let's just say the things that look yellow are actually the perfect shade of green to match the paper. Stupid light.

At any rate - I really wanted the colours to be perfect, because this is for the Authentique October colour challenge.  I hope you'll try out the challenge and share with us!

This May Arts trim has an awesome texture.  Helmar 450 Quick Dry made it stick.

I've said it before - if you don't understand why flowers and snow belong on the same page, you haven't spent spring in Canada, ha ha!

I popped some of the stickers, with Zap Dots,  to give them a little 'oomph'.

Kinda in love with these tiny snowflakes - I expect to see them on a lot of winter pages in the next while.

Thank you to May Arts and Imagine Crafts for the trims and inks supplied to the Authentique team!
